I am going on a vacation and I am so excited! My friends and I have been planning this for months and it is almost upon us. To say that we a psyched about this trip is an understatement.

This is a welcome break for all of us. We have been slaving away at our respective work and going to our cricket training every day. The 3-week holiday in Barcelona will definitely give us a chance to just relax and enjoy.

We are going on a trip to Barcelona!

You are probably wondering why we are going to Barcelona. It was my idea actually. I was always fascinated with the city and since none of my friends and I have been to this place, the decision was quite easy.

The city of Barcelona is the largest city of Catalonia and the second largest in Spain. There are quite a lot of people living here – around 1 and a half million and that does not even count the tourists that flock the city every year.

What makes this city great for a vacation is the fact that it is in the northeastern part of Spain – right along the Mediterranean coast. The city was not that famous in the past but after the 1992 Olympics was held here, everyone wanted to come for a visit.

Based on what I have read about Barcelona, it is a nice mix of old and new. When the Olympics happened, the local government did its best to make the city as modern as they can. Of course, they couldn’t touch the historical sites and the old architecture. The result is a modern Barcelona with a well-preserved antiquity.

There are so many things to do in this city. The outdoor markets, museums, churches, restaurants, and the various shops will definitely keep us occupied. The Metro system makes it very easy to go around the city and even beyond it. Of course, the beaches are worth noting.

What to do in Barcelona

So what do we plan to do while on vacation? Since it was my idea, my friends gave me the task of planning our itinerary.

When we arrive, I do not have plans to go sightseeing yet. We have 3 weeks! We have more than enough time to do everything. I was thinking of getting everyone settled and just letting our feet take us wherever we want.

From what I have read, we can explore the whole city in 7 days. I planned on extending that for a couple of days so we do not have to rush from one place to the other. I included all the important sites around Barcelona – the El Born, Raval, Gracia, Gothic Quarter, Tarragona, Monserrat, and even Gaudi’s buildings. Since the tourist spots are quite far from each other, we won’t be finishing all of the sites in one day. I plan on exploring the nightlife in Barcelona – but we will decide where to go once we arrive in the city.

I am thinking of picking a couple of cities to visit after we had our fill of Barcelona. Maybe we can also go to Seville or Andalusia. I have to ask my companions before I make further plans.

One thing is for sure – we can’t wait for this vacation to start. I have a good feeling it will be really awesome.
